So you have decided to DIY your wedding (or at least some parts of your wedding).  That is so freaking awesome!  But now, you have to figure out how to DIY these projects on top of planning the rest of your wedding.  Eeepp.  Don’t worry I’ve got your back.  It is time for a Wedding Craft Party!

Get Organized

Figure out what crafts you want help with (probably all of them).  Then get all of the supplies for each project together.  Make a sample of each project and list the step by step process on a piece of paper.  I know, this may seem like a lot, but it is really helpful when you have a room of 5 – 10 people all trying to ask you what they need to do and if they are doing it correctly.

Example:  Wedding programs: Print a sample program, cut the paper on a paper cutter, and assemble the program to create your sample.  The steps might read: 1. Print the program on the parchment paper.  2. Use the paper cutter to cut the program down to size.  3. Fold the program in threes as shown in the sample.

Who To Invite

Invite any of your friends and family who have the skills you need to complete your projects.  Don’t think to hard on this part.  If you are doing your own invitations, you don’t need a friend who is a stationer, you may just need someone that can put paper in a printer and use a paper cutter.  😉

The more important thing to think about when choosing who to invite is how well they take direction and how supportive they are of your wedding vision.  The last thing you want is a bunch of people criticizing your wedding ideas or coming up with ‘better’ ideas for what to include or how to do something.  (My first crafting party went a little something like that.  I learned my lesson and revised my list for the next party.)

Make It A Party

Some people love crafting.  Others, not so much, but they love you and want to help you.  Either way, make it fun for them to help with the wedding.  Order pizza or have a fruit and cheese spread.  Have mimosas or specialty teas and sodas to enjoy.  After everything is said and done, make sure you thank each and every one of them for their help.

Let It Go

If you are asking for help from a large group of people who are not as crafty as you, it is most likely that your DIY projects won’t come out exactly the way that you envisioned.  And you know what, that’s totally fine.  No one is going to notice that 5 of the invitations are off by 1/4 of an inch.  No one will notice that their favor has one less jelly bean than the rest.  What is more important is that your community of family and friends love you and your future spouse so much that they were willing to help you make your wedding day amazing.
