Heyyyy!

#DateYourSpouse – Harry Potter Marathon

You may have noticed that I am a bit obsessed with Harry Potter!  If you have not, let me bring you up to speed: my wedding and honeymoon was Harry Potter themed, I got two hours of sleep to go to the midnight showing of Deathly Hallows Part II, I have 4 Harry Potter related tattoos, and my house has a cupboard under the stairs!  My husband and I watch the Harry Potter movies almost non-stop in the month of November.  But it has been a while since we sat down and watched them all in order (we tend to fall asleep on the couch if we watch anything in the evenings).  So, this weekend we are planning a Harry Potter movie marathon!

Watching Schedule

The Harry Potter movies are each pretty long movies.  Sorcerer’s Stone (or Philosopher’s Stone for my super nerds) is 2 hours and 40 minutes just itself!  The total time of all the movies is 19 hours and 39 minutes.  This does not account for food breaks or to time to switch out the movies.  I don’t know about you, but that is a little too much time on the couch to expect me to not fall asleep!  We decided to split the movies between two days.  4 movies the first day (about 10 hours and 12 minutes) and the last four the next (9 hours and 27 minutes).

Prep Your Snacks!

Oh the wonderful world of Harry Potter snacks.  We will definitely be sipping on some Butterbeers this weekend.  You can make your own Butterbeer (I recommend this recipie) or you can pick up a few bottle of Flying Cauldron!

Another must for us is cauldron cakes!  This is deceivingly easy.  Here is how you make them:

  1. Pick a dense, dark chocolate cake mix an bake cupcakes per the instructions without the cupcake liners (we like the Betty Crocker Gluten Free Devil’s Food, super dense and delicious).
  2. Pop them out of the cake pan, flip them over, and scoop out the center with a fruit baller.
  3. Fill the inside with icing the color of which ever potion you choose.
  4. Extra House Points: make chocolate cauldron handles to attach to the cakes!

There are so many other treats that you can make or buy for your weekend!  If you plan far enough in advance, you can order treats from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  I recommend the Fizzing Whizzbees and, if you are brave enough, Burtie Botts Every Flavor Beans can be a lot of fun!  Another treat we love to make at home is licorice wands.  Just dip some licorice in melted chocolate to make the wand handle and let it cool.  If you need more recipes or ideas, just Pinterest “Harry Potter Treats”.

Get Decked Out In Your Gear

Now is the time to fully deck yourself out in your Harry Potter gear.  Have your house robes?  Perfect time to wear them!  No robes yet?  Grab your favorite HP shirt and any other accessories you may have!

My husband and I will be throwing on our Harry Potter pajama bottoms, house Quidditch shirts, house socks, and, of course, our wands!
