#DateYourSpouse – Build A Fort

Yes, we are married adults.  Yes, we built a fort for our anniversary.  And it was amazing!  This #DateYourSpouse is brought to you by your inner child.  They will thank you for remembering how amazing it is to build and hang out in a fort!

What you will need:

  • Blankets/Sheets
  • Cushions
  • Pillows
  • Chairs/Couches
  • Rope (optional)
  • Flashlights/Glowsticks
  • Snacks
  • Games/Books

Step 1:  Gather Your Supplies

Gather as many of the supplies as you think you will need and then some.  Think of what your favorite snacks are to share and prepare them to go in the fort. Some ideas are popcorn, juice boxes, trail mix, and candies.  Decide on what games you want to play.  Think card games and board games.  But if you want to get really clever, you can build your fort around your tv and play video games!

Step 2:  Build Your Fort

I will admit, this seemed to be easier when I was a kid.  I am not sure the best way to build a fort, but this is what we did.

  1. Build your perimeter of chairs and couches.
  2. Put down the cushion/pillow flooring of the fort.
  3. Attempt to tie the blankets together and string them across the roof and sides of the fort.
  4. Realize that the top is sinking in too much, and grab a mic stand from the garage to prop up the middle of the fort.

I’m sure Pinterest has some better instructions on how to build a fort.  But it might be funner to try and go by memory of how you built forts when you were kids.

Step 3: Enjoy!

Spend the evening in the fort eating snacks, playing games, making shadow puppet shows, etc.

Married With Children Style

Invite the kids to join in on building the fort and enjoying it!  Or, build it after the kids go to bed and have a nice evening in there, just the two of you.  You can leave it up overnight and let the kids play in it the next day as a surprise!
